Pentecost is Coming!
One hundred and twenty people gathered that day in a room located on one of the side streets of Jerusalem. The last few weeks had been amazing! Emotions of the followers of Jesus had gone from exhilaration to sorrow to exhilaration again! Jesus' triumphal entry had such promise... surely this meant that their teacher would take control and He would put things right. Afterall they had seen Him do such wonderful things; healings, miracles, and deliverance of the captives. They had heard Him speak with authority about who God really is... what God is really like... a Father! Then they saw the tide turn against this One they love. He had challenged the system and they put Him to death. Oh but on the first day of the week fifty days ago, this Jesus once more battered their senses, stretched their understanding, confounded their reason, by overcoming death itself. He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed became the chant of the community of faith. The disciples saw Him, they touched Him, they watched Him eat... this was real! Jesus had returned from the dead! The disciples thought well now it is all going to be better. All things will be made right, but Jesus startled them again as He said, "I must go away." "Go away? No you cannot be taken from us again!", they must have excaimed. Jesus however, assured them it was for the best... the gift was coming!
So here they are gathered at His command waiting. Waiting for the promise, the gift He had told them about. He called this gift the comforter. Jesus said this "One" would be a guide and a teacher. Jesus said He was sending His Spirit, His Holy Spirit, who would now become their teacher. He will testify concerning me Jesus said and at Holy Spirit's coming the disciples would be given power! On the Day of Pentecost, Holy Spirit did come like a tornado rushing into that upper room. Power was given and prophesy was fulfilled as God the Father moved one step closer to the goal He had from the beginning of creation to form a human to love and cherish for eternity.
The church with all its flaws and weakness is the vessel for God's Holy Treasures. Holy Spirit dwells within us to give us power to be a witness to the world. To tell anyone who will listen that God has a wonderful, glorious, plan for all of us. On Sunday May 19th churches all over the world will once again wait before the Lord God in Heaven. Have you noticed the wind picking up? Listen do you hear the roar? The wind continues to blow and the fire of glory falls as the adventure continues.
Lead Your Child to Life
Proverbs 22:6 speaks to all parents. It says: "Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it..." Every child deserves to hear the tales of the Messiah. They need to know of a God who is intimate and active in our world. A God who so loved the world that He gave Jesus. The greatest love story ever told.
Sunday School is one of the best gifts you can give to your child. It is so amazing to watch the light come on spiritually. God loves and is delighted by the open hearts of little ones. Jesus, God human flesh told His disciples to let the children come to Him. He said that anyone who would find their way to the heart of God must be like children... not childish, but child-like.
Living Way Church loves children. Our halls are filled with laughter and playing. We are a safe place. All of our teachers undergo background checks and each one takes seriously the precious gift that is your child. It would be our greatest blessing to share in the life of your child and of yourself. You are invited to give Sunday School a try. The joyous fun begins at 9:45 AM. See you Sunday!
the Language of the Spirit...
Heaven is filled with music! The Bible is filled music. The Book of Psalms is in fact a hymnbook for the nation of Israel. Whenever the Israelite armies were sent into battle God reminded them of the peace of being God's people by sending the choir ahead of the infantry. In the church, music helps to direct our eyes heavenward.
The choir at Living Way Church is a critical part of our ministry. That is why we are always looking for "worship warriors" who love Jesus. If you love to sing come and help us to break the yoke of bondage and to rejoice in the Lord. The first of the year with all of the associated new resolutions is an excellent time to re-connect with church and to lift your heart before the Lord in song. Join us this Sunday!!
John Wesley is the founder of the United Methodist Church. Central to His theology was salvation by grace through faith. However one of the key elements of His ministry was understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit. His own heart being strangely warmed at Aldersgate was a personal encounter with Holy Spirit that informed and molded His ministry throughout his life. He believed there was a day coming when a magnificent revival, an outpouring of God glory and mercy would take place..
“The times which we have reason to believe are at hand (if they are not already begun) are what many pious men have termed the time of the "latter-day glory;" meaning the time wherein God would gloriously display his power and love in the fulfillment of his gracious promise, that "knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth, as the waters of the sea.”
The Word of God is said to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Each Sunday Evening disciples gather to hear God speak to us through scripture. Join Us!
