Here we are once again plunging headlong into the holiday season with all its festive colors and pageantry. It seems in our busy world that we no sooner see the arrival of a new school year when we must begin to think of Christmas and the associated pressures. Most of us do not think of Advent as a season of waiting and expectation unless we are referring to the lines at the cash register. However, the center of this blessed season is the anticipation of the Messiah's arrival upon the human stage.
As Christians we believe the Messiah (God's chosen representative) came in a manger wrapped in human flesh. The promises of the Anointed One's coming are written within the very first pages of the sacred text. Through the years God's prophets spoke into the hearts of believers the hope of the one who would make all things new. His name shall be called Emmanuel, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, and He shall be the glory of Israel.
The angels sang with a holy ferver to the shepherds in those Judean hills. Glory to God in the highest... I bring you great news. The Messiah, God's beginning and end has been born in Bethlehem. The baby born that day grew to be the Lamb of God... God surprised us all by dying on a cross to bring us home to Heaven. God so loved the world...
We still wait this Advent season. This time for the promised return of Jesus the Christ (anointed one) who rose from the dead and has been waiting for the fullness of God's time. Soon and very soon a true Christmas Light will appear in the skies over planet earth and God's plan will come to completion as we are instantly changed and enter an eternal rest... a place Jesus has prepared for us. You are invited to come wait with us this Advent Season. We have a place for you!
the Language of the Spirit...
Heaven is filled with music! The Bible is filled music. The Book of Psalms is in fact a hymnbook for the nation of Israel. Whenever the Israelite armies were sent into battle God reminded them of the peace of being God's people by sending the choir ahead of the infantry. In the church, music helps to direct our eyes heavenward.
The choir at Living Way Church is a critical part of our ministry. That is why we are always looking for "worship warriors" who love Jesus. If you love to sing come and help us to break the yoke of bondage and to rejoice in the Lord. The fall is a very busy time for the church and is an excellent time to re-connect with church and to lift your heart before the Lord in song. Join us this Sunday!!
John Wesley is the founder of the United Methodist Church. Central to His theology was salvation by grace through faith. However one of the key elements of His ministry was understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit. His own heart being strangely warmed at Aldersgate was a personal encounter with Holy Spirit that informed and molded His ministry throughout his life. He believed there was a day coming when a magnificent revival, an outpouring of God glory and mercy would take place..
“The times which we have reason to believe are at hand (if they are not already begun) are what many pious men have termed the time of the "latter-day glory;" meaning the time wherein God would gloriously display his power and love in the fulfillment of his gracious promise, that "knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth, as the waters of the sea.”
The Word of God is said to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Each Sunday Evening disciples gather to hear God speak to us through scripture. Join Us!
